Death on Wheels.

Ok, so I’m not exactly that sketchy of a tractor driver, but I did make two pretty stupid errors on my second day training with Mike.

I was nervous signing up for this job, and now am even more nervous…

First, I got cocky thinking I could go around an electric pole (despite Mike’s protests) I assured him “I got this!”…and very nearly killed us both.  I’m exaggerating a bit, but my lack of experience showed I had no idea how far the seeder lagged behind the tractor.

Just because the tractor had cleared the pole didn’t mean I was in the clear.  We were able to raise the arms and put them back down after we’d passed the dangerous object.  Phew.

My second mistake was turning too sharply.  Which is incredibly easy to do.  Especially when you think you’re bound to hit something.  I knocked a wheel and bent a small bracket (which is now being replaced).

I’m nervous, but having made these two simple mistakes early on has given me an understanding of what I’m dealing with.  A massive death trap.

I’m not that excited about tractor photos, but (if you want!) I’ll put some up later.

This morning we spotted a few Major Mitchell Cockatoo, which are quite simply…stunning!  No photo, but I’ll keep an eye out incase we see them again.

And right now Mike’s playing his first game of the seasons for the Coorow Magpies…which is why I am able to write this post! haha…again sitting in the parking lot looking sketchy.
