  3. I’ll tell you how I came to be a follower. I have a Google Alert running for “Mingenew” and it found one of your posts from some time ago when Mike was playing football there. I went to the link and have been around ever since. My father, grandfather and great grandfather all lived in Mingenew and I therefore have a close affinity with the place. I also happen to like photography, flora and fauna as well as stories of farm life. (Reminds me of the pioneers of our country, I guess.) She who must be obeyed does not enjoy country travel, so I don’t get back to Mingenew and surrounding areas all that often. So here I am, stuck in suburbia. Dull, dull, dull!

    • Hi John, You’re my go to guy for insect/wildlife identification. I recall you introducing me to the Christmas Spider. We’ll be in Suburbia soon enough (less than a month now). Do you ever head to Rottnest Island? I’m dying to see a Quokka.

Your blog caught my eye, I have never been to Australia, and your blog and beautiful pictures gives me a wonderful taste of Australia.

    • I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed the blog so far! Thank you! How Armenia must be a huge change from America…Do you find it challenging culturally or do you embrace it all? I’ve never been to Armenia.

    • hahah uh, as a child (12 year old) I spent two summers looking after race horses/thoroughbreds which was my Favourite 2 summers I can recall. I loved caring for the horses and seeing their personalities. As for my expertise…well it’s non existent for horses.

  7. I came across your blog a while back and can’t even tell you how. Anyway, I am interested in rural life, especially in the different ways that different regions of the world cause us to live and operate. We live in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas in the U.S. We run beef cattle on land that has been in the family for over a century. It has been fun following your adventures. Good luck as you start something new.

    • Hi Kevin, wow 100 years! That’s amazing…you must feel really connected to the land. How many cattle to you keep? I hope it stays with your family for another 100 years.

  9. I think I came across your blog because of the sheep photos, (although, with my daughters we loved the kangaroo pics too!) I have been living in Chile for the past 15 years and enjoy reading about people who live their lives a bit differently.

    • Oh, I’m so glad your girls love to kangaroos too! I hope if Mike and I ever have kids they can look back on our life here and see what we got up to before they came around! Chile, awesome. How did you end up in Chile? Where did you originally come from? Thanks for reading!

I started following you blog because I miss the crap out of you and I love reading about the adventures you and Mike are having. I am proud of the work you two are doing far more important is the work you continue to do with your lens. I have always loved your photography, I even found my Agnes 5×7 shot yesterday, still one of my favorites.

    Love you xo

  11. Love the photo – love that red brown – can practically pet these horses. I’m a new follower of yours, being a novice photographer-artist and an experienced writer. I live in Colorado and my next door neighbors are donkeys and a horse.

    • Hi Lucy,

I’ll pop over and take a look at some of your work, and writing! Colorado would be something else…I love mountains, and so would probably be in love with the Colorado lifestyle. How do you like it?

  12. Hi Holly,

I live in California and I found your blog through the fresh pressed section. I keep coming back because of all of your beautiful pictures of Australia. I’ve always wanted to travel to Australia, although some of the bugs you post pics of may make me change my mind…

    • Hi Melanie,

I think the bugs can be a bit intimidating, but most of them are harmless. We keep a lot of bug spray in the house, though it’s normally to kill flies/ants! ahahah… You should come here though…there is so much to see.

If you stay in a major city you’ll have less encounters… I mean we’re in the thick of it out here!

  13. I have no idea how I found you – just got the impression you might be a fellow Canadian living far from home or what used to be home, as I am. I live in Tucson, Arizona in the winter and Colorado in the summers. When I smelled and listened to the desert for the first time, I was smitten. Now I do my artwork and writing here and follow blogs like yours which present a love for the natural world and love for your work.

    • Arizona I’ve been told has a powerful presence and can give people a sense of awe. I’ve got family who’ve just retired there who absolutely love it. You’re so lucky to live in two places! How awesome! I’ve never been to either of your homes. What drew you to also live in Colorado?
      Thanks for reading Judy.

      • Arizona is a powerful place and I suspect has that aura about it that Australia has – you have to respect the desert and be aware of what your body is doing in its climate. The vistas are magnificent and the cultures ancient. We scoot up to Colorado for cool summers – a beautiful scene around every bend in the hair-raising mountains roads.

  16. Hello. I am new to blogging, and WordPress suggested you so I followed. 🙂 I live in Alabama, United States. I am a mom of a spirited 3 year old boy, step-mom to an equally spirited 15 year old girl, and wife to a tattooed Christian skateboarder. I am happy most of the time, and end up earning nicknames to do with smiling because of that. Cooking is my passion, and if I could spend all my time taking pictures of, and eating, food, I totally would. Nice to meet you.

    • Welcome to the world of blogging Pumpkin and Prose! It’s such rewarding activity, I like to think many years down the road there will be an accurate record for our kids to read of what life was like before they came around. I am with you on taking photos of food and consuming it! What are some of your favourite meals?

      Like

      • My tastes are probably not what anyone would call ‘sophisticated’. That said, my favorite type of cooking is baking. Cookies, cakes, pies, all of that is my favorite to make, especially for others. Second favorite is breakfast. Protein pancakes, variations of pancakes that are better for me than plain pancakes, it’s kind-of an obsession of mine. haha. I also need dark chocolate like I need air. What do you most like to eat?

        Like

      • I’m not much of a baker but respect anyone who can do it with ease! I’m terrible! ahhaha uh a lack of following instructions is my problem. As for favourite foods…Mexican, Italian, Greek, Ethiopian..I’m all over the map! shah even Canadian “cuisine” aka: poutine! Though I’d probably choose bacon over sweets… I guess I’m more into savoury food than sweet.

  17. I’m a painter of animals from Texas! Love your photos! I hear that Texas and Australia are similar….. full of cowboys, adventurers, and beer drinkers. Haha!

    Like

    • I’d say you’re right on the money there. A lot of people here aspire to be like Americans! Western Australia has that texas “Bigger is Better” attitude, with mining, the size of farms etc. The adventure and rugged life style definitely is on par with the cowboys/cowgirls of America. Thanks so much for commenting!
