I’ll tell you how I came to be a follower. I have a Google Alert running for “Mingenew” and it found one of your posts from some time ago when Mike was playing football there. I went to the link and have been around ever since. My father, grandfather and great grandfather all lived in Mingenew and I therefore have a close affinity with the place. I also happen to like photography, flora and fauna as well as stories of farm life. (Reminds me of the pioneers of our country, I guess.) She who must be obeyed does not enjoy country travel, so I don’t get back to Mingenew and surrounding areas all that often. So here I am, stuck in suburbia. Dull, dull, dull!

hahah uh, as a child (12 year old) I spent two summers looking after race horses/thoroughbreds which was my Favourite 2 summers I can recall. I loved caring for the horses and seeing their personalities. As for my expertise…well it’s non existent for horses.

I live totaly off grid and live self sufficient for power and water.. food how ever is substituted by the supermarkets

I came across your blog a while back and can’t even tell you how. Anyway, I am interested in rural life, especially in the different ways that different regions of the world cause us to live and operate. We live in the Ozarks of Northwest Arkansas in the U.S. We run beef cattle on land that has been in the family for over a century. It has been fun following your adventures. Good luck as you start something new.

I think I came across your blog because of the sheep photos, (although, with my daughters we loved the kangaroo pics too!) I have been living in Chile for the past 15 years and enjoy reading about people who live their lives a bit differently.

My name is Carly, we met a very long time ago in elementary school. However, it wasn’t until after highschool where we became close. I started following you blog because I miss the crap out of you and I love reading about the adventures you and Mike are having. I think the bugs can be a bit intimidating, but most of them are harmless. We keep a lot of bug spray in the house, though it’s normally to kill flies/ants! ahahah… You should come here though…there is so much to see.
If you stay in a major city you’ll have less encounters… I mean we’re in the thick of it out here!

I have no idea how I found you – just got the impression you might be a fellow Canadian living far from home or what used to be home, as I am. I live in Tucson, Arizona in the winter and Colorado in the summers. When I smelled and listened to the desert for the first time, I was smitten. Now I do my artwork and writing here and follow blogs like yours which present a love for the natural world and love for your work.

Arizona is a powerful place and I suspect has that aura about it that Australia has – you have to respect the desert and be aware of what your body is doing in its climate. The vistas are magnificent and the cultures ancient. We scoot up to Colorado for cool summers – a beautiful scene around every bend in the hair-raising mountains roads.

My tastes are probably not what anyone would call ‘sophisticated’. That said, my favorite type of cooking is baking. Cookies, cakes, pies, all of that is my favorite to make, especially for others. Second favorite is breakfast. Protein pancakes, variations of pancakes that are better for me than plain pancakes, it’s kind-of an obsession of mine. haha. I also need dark chocolate like I need air. What do you most like to eat?

I’m not much of a baker but respect anyone who can do it with ease! I’m terrible! ahhaha uh a lack of following instructions is my problem. As for favourite foods…Mexican, Italian, Greek, Ethiopian..I’m all over the map! shah even Canadian “cuisine” aka: poutine! Though I’d probably choose bacon over sweets… I guess I’m more into savoury food than sweet.

I’d say you’re right on the money there. A lot of people here aspire to be like Americans! Western Australia has that texas “Bigger is Better” attitude, with mining, the size of farms etc. The adventure and rugged life style definitely is on par with the cowboys/cowgirls of America. Love it! My brother’s band toured Australia a couple of years ago, and he said that it was the same as Texas, but with different accents.
